Obituary

Charles Walter Mikos, aged 100 of Ravenna passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at his home with his wife Emma by his side. Charles was born on October 5, 1914 in Munising, the son of Thomas and Catherine (Kulkulka) Mikos, moved to Muskegon to find work and found a farm in Ravenna on Kelly’s corners where he would spend the rest of his life. In 1932, he joined and worked for the CCC, and returned home in 1933 to marry Delores Green. They were blessed with four children Patricia, Linda, Charles, and Delores. Delores preceded him in death and Charles was blessed with a second love when he met and married Emma Koperski in 1976. They have celebrated 38 years by each others side. Charles was also preceded in death by his parents, his daughters Patricia and Linda, his son Charles, his sons-in-law Charles Ashley and George Graves, his granddaughter Cindy, his great-grandson Steve Belka, his brothers John and Steve, his sister Mary Bialik Bauder, and his brother-in-law John Twork. Charles joined the workforce at CWC for 9 years, then began working for Teledyne Continental Motors, where he inspected and drove tanks all over town. It was his joy to drive the tanks in the parades for many years. Charles retired from Teledyne after 40 years of service. Not one to stay idle, he worked for Chevrolet Garage, driving new cars all over the United States for dealer swaps until finally retiring at the age of 97. His enjoyments in life included Polka dancing, gardening, tinkering with engines, and woodworking. He loved growing flowers for his wife. Charles was a 40 year member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Ravenna. Charles will be greatly missed by his wife Emma, his daughter Dee Graves, his stepdaughter Kathy Belka, his grandchildren Chris Ashley, Kay Thalman, Clint Ashley, Charlene Ashley Menacho, Wayne Belka, Theresa Dixon, Bruce Belka, Denice Sands, and Michael Mikos, his great-grandchildren Lauren and Jacob Thalman, Elizabeth, Catherine, and Noah Ashley, Isabella Menacho, Mitchell, Ryleigh, and Morgan Belka, Keegan Findley, Maddox Dixon, Jacob Theimen, Greg Jr. and Daniel Sands, Angelicia and Brandon Mikos, his great, great-grandsons Dylan Sands, and Carson Sands, his older sister Anna Mullen, his younger sister Rose Twork, and numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass will be held for Charles on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 10:30 am at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Ravenna, with Rev. Anthony Vainavicz, presiding. Friends may meet with his family for a time of visitation on Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Throop Funeral Home of Ravenna.
