Obituary

Surrounded by his family, Harold J. Conran went to be with his lord and savior on March 2, 2017. Harry as known by family and friends was born July 22, 1924 in Ravenna, MI. He loved his community so much he lived there his entire life. He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1942, where he played football, basketball, baseball and socializing with friends so much so his classmates voted him Homecoming King. Upon graduation, he entered and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon his return, he attended Muskegon Community College and Michigan State University where he studied the Arts and Engineering. He took a job with Leigh products of Coopersville which led him into a career in engineering. In 1957, Harry met Daisy and began their life together on July 6, 1957. They raised 5 children; Catherine (Paul) Cole, Pamela (Ted) Draper, Tina (Dave) Rothwell, John (Misty) Conran and Lisa (Tim) Jacobs; 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Alberta Rosel (sister), Arnim Conran (brother) and Agnes Goodrich (sister). Harry was a lifetime member of the Ravenna Lions Club, as well as the American Legion and VFW. His hobbies included playing men’s softball, bowling on a league, avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed driving his motorcycle but mostly his dune buggy around the state of Michigan with friends. Harry was an artist of many oil and pastel paintings, including painting one of kind pumpkins for his grandchildren and also made their way around the community. His most enjoyable hobby was traveling with his family to places that took him around the world. A Memorial Service for Harry will be conducted on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 11:00am at the First Reformed Church in Ravenna with Pastor Steve VanderWoude officiating. Burial will be in Hilton Cemetery. The family will be at the Throop Funeral Home of Ravenna on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00pm to greet friends.
