Obituary

Clarence Raymond Borgman, lifelong resident of Ravenna, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020 two days short of his 95th birthday. Clarence was born on December 15, 1925 in Moorland Township, the 9th of 14 children born to Alfred and Edna (Brondyk) Borgman, and graduated from Ravenna High School with the class of 1944. During his senior year, Clarence drove school bus for his fellow students as he was deemed responsible and old enough to handle the task for the district. After graduation he began hauling milk for Lingren’s Milk Haulers - which soon after, he took over and began operating Clarence Borgman Milk Hauling for the next 40 years until his retirement. He hauled milk locally for the Michigan Milk Producers of America and later transported milk to Detroit. On April 2, 1949 Clarence married the love of his life, Doris Zuidema and they were able to celebrate their anniversary for the 71st time this year, all in the same home where they started . Clarence was a Life member of First Reformed Church of Ravenna having served the congregation as a Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School teacher for many years. He loved to play baseball, especially if his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were involved. In retirement, Clarence and Doris enjoyed spending their winters in Florida and traveling with their family all over the country. Clarence stayed young by cutting his own firewood and maintaining the cleanest garden in the area, always absent of weeds. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Edna; his son-in-law Randy Schwingler; his brothers and sisters Grace DuBois, Agnes Rollston, John Borgman, Jenny Long, Genevieve Anderson, Harley Borgman, Herbert Borgman, Alfred Borgman, William Borgman, Harry Borgman, and James Borgman; and his sister-in-law Barbara Gilbert. Clarence will be greatly missed by his wife Doris; their children Paul (Elizabeth) Borgman of Ravenna, Nancy Schwingler of Fremont, and Ruth Ann Hornacek of Brighton; his grandchildren Michael (Maureen) Hornacek, Paul (Autumn) Borgman, Sarah Borgman Smith, Wendy Hornacek, and Lee (Caitlyn) Schwingler; his great-grandchildren McKenna, Maddie, McGuire, and Tyler Hornacek, Kalvin, Kaden Timothy, and Jacob Borgman; his sisters Barbara Van Maastricht and Marilyn VanderLinde; his brother-in-law Herb (Norma) Zuidema of Redding, CA; his sisters-in-law Della (Harry) Karel of Muskegon, and Sandy Borgman also of Muskegon; along with numerous nieces and nephews. At this time, a private family service will be held for Clarence and burial will take place at Ravenna Cemetery. A ceremony to celebrate Clarence’s life will be held later this spring. Those who wish to remember Clarence with a memorial donation are asked to please consider First Reformed Church of Ravenna, or Spectrum Health Hospice.
