Date Passed: Apr. 2nd, 2018

William B. Darcy aged 89 of Ravenna passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018 at the Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. William was born on May 22, 1928 in Muskegon Heights, the son of Herman and Florence (Mathes) Darcy. On November 26, 1949 he married Elsie Johnson at the Samuel Lutheran Church in Muskegon and they have celebrated 68 years by each other’s side. William worked 35 years for Kaydon Engineering in Muskegon, retiring in 1985, serving many years as the Union Steward. A longtime resident of Sullivan Township, William served as Township Supervisor for 10 years and was a Muskegon County Commissioner for 15 years. He also served many years on the Muskegon County Mental Health Board. William was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Muskegon Heights and was a Mason with Masonic Lodge 441 in Ravenna. Following retirement, William and Elsie enjoyed wintering in Florida for 27 years where he was able to pursue his love of golf year-round. As a cross-handed golfer, he was especially proud of scoring a hole-in-one. When not on the golf course, he could often be found playing a game of cards with his friends and was credited with playing a perfect hand in Cribbage. William also enjoyed many years of bowling and hunting. As a very outgoing person, he frequently hosted parties for friends and family, and loved to engage in political discussions, especially regarding his favored Democratic Party. Of all his hobbies, interests, and accomplishments celebrated over a lifetime, his greatest joy was wearing the title of Dad and Grandpa. William will be greatly missed by his wife Elsie, his children Nancy Mayfield of Texas, Sue Buckner of Nunica, Larry Darcy of Ravenna, Richard Darcy and wife Mary of Coopersville, David Darcy and wife Cynthia of North Muskegon, and Daniel Darcy and wife Melba of Lakeside, 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and his sister Virginia Young of Ravenna. William will also be missed by their special friends George & Lucy, Bob & Martha, Dean & Phyllis, and Gary. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Herman and Robert, and his sister Maxine Eagle. Friends may visit with his family from 4:00 – 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 5 at the Throop Funeral Home of Ravenna, and a Service of Remembrance will be held for William at 11:00 am on Friday, April 6 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Nunica with Rev. Brennan Woell officiating. Burial will take place at Sullivan Township Cemetery at a later date.
